I’m Shey and my adventurous family of four lives in Japan and we explore the less-travelled parts of this incredible country.

Our mission now is to visit every one of Japan’s incredible 47 prefectures in four years.

Planning travel and writing about it is my ikigai (my bliss). I spend hours researching trips to find the most curious places – key requirements include ensuring the kids (10 & 8) are having a blast, and my husband gets to eat all the things.

Japan is also in my blood, literally. My great-grandfather emigrated to Australia from Wakayama, Japan in 1902 and I’m searching to find that link to my cultural heritage. Here is my family history story.

I have worked for 18 years in corporate communications writing about and marketing businesses, and now I’m excited to use these skills to write about this incredible country I am in love with.

Over the last 25 years or so, I have travelled to 28 countries and lived in Australia, the USA, Philippines and now the intriguing Japan!

Japan is so incredible and there is so much to see outside of the main tourist areas. Every prefecture is perfect in its own way and has some hidden gems to be discovered.

I hope our blog and videos can inspire you to look further than the usual suspects when visiting Japan for a unique, curious and maybe a little quirky, family adventure.
